The most radical rule changes in Formula 1 history

Sebastian Vettel’s 2008 race car assembles itself around him, putting itself together from uncountable screws, panels and gears, before transforming itself at full throttle into the drastically different 2009 model.

Spoilers fold in, sides narrow. The shark’s gills close, the tail trims down. The nose rises, slicks roll in and are mounted during a mid-air pitstop while speeding around the track. Sebastian Vettel presses the KERS button for the first time.

In the middle of flat-out racing action, the clip delivers a visual impression of the most important changes heading into the 2009 season. It has been seen by more than 220 million TV viewers around the world.
